The Cage [Häkki], HD video, 4 min 55 s, 2013, preview of the two-channel installation

The video is dealing with a memory of a horrible childhood experience. A woman tells about an bullying incident from her childhood that she has not forgiven. The woman meets her bully when she is adult but does not want to see that the other has changed. The story is told in backlashes. The story is inspired by a story that a visitor has told in Johanna Lecklin's Story Café in Helsinki 2006.
The piece is a two channel installation and it is also edited to short film version.

A schoolgirl, Sofia, is invited to another girl's birthday party. Instead of taking her to a party, the birthday girl, Rebecca, leads Sofia to a coppice with a cage made of wood and a bunch of boys standing around it. Rebecca pushes Sofia into the cage. All the children start to tease Sofia and call her with bad names. Bigger boys come by with their bicycles. They wonder why Sofia is in the cage but they don't intervene. Instead they circle around the cage with their bikes and then leave the grove. The adult Sofia and Rebecca meet in a bar twenty years after the event. Sofia is still full of hatred against her former bully. The roles have changed; Sofa seems self -confident and Rebecca looks like she would like them to settle. They do not reconcile.

Guilt [Skuld], HD video, 3 min 30 s, 2013   |   a dramatised story from Story Café >>>

A short musical about the meeting between a daughter and her mother, who have not been in touch for a long time. They meet at the funeral of the mother's sister. The daughter regrets her mean words that she has uttered as a child. The daughter sings her lines and they dance together. The dance shows how their feelings develop. They reconcile in the end.

The lyrics of the song are based on a story, which Johanna Lecklin has recorded in her art project Story Café. Composer Jarno Kukkonen has composed a tango for the piece. The original story was in English and the lyrics of the song are in Swedish.

A Christmas Tale, 2013   |   a dramatised story from Story Café >>>

A small girl decides to reveal Santa Claus by ripping his beard off on Christmas Eve. Some of the other children laugh, some are afraid and one girl gets furious when she realises that the adults have been lying about Santa all the time. The film is silent. Absurd texts criticise the consumerism of Christmas from the point of view of the two girls.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is a video installation on three channels. It shows a panorama of a landscape with three young girls of different age jumping across a meadow. Each on their turn they jump across the landscape. In the image on the middle they stop and start crossing watermelons. A rhythmic soundscape accompany the girls. The piece is a loop; each girl crosses the frame twice. In the end they run across the screen hand in hand.
